I have been reading John Gray's book Why Mars and Venus Collide and learning soooo much about the different ways men and women can lower their stress hormones.
Women used to work side by side with one another, raising and caring for one another's children, interacting with other women all day long. Their oxytocin (the bonding hormone) was naturally stimulated and kept their other hormones in balance. Today, women are often doing the work of men (which builds testosterone) as well as of women and not sitting in sister circles to diffuse their stress.
So today, I am choosing to stimulate my oxytocin production deliberately by engaging in activities that have an emphasis on sharing, communication, safety, security, cleanliness, beauty, trust, cooperation, caring, teamwork, shared responsibility, consistency, compliments, affection, support, collaboration, routine, rhythm, group efforts, nurturing and virtue.
I started my day by reading and making my morning protein shake while unloading the dishwasher. Then I took care of a little mouse our cat brought in last night, made some food for my son, and did some yoga trance dancing with a virtual-video-community. Then I sent some emails and cyber-connected by offering some help to another mom on a yahoo group list. I wrote in my journal rather than fight with my husband (he was tantruming about our new laptop not working right) and I chose to bond by cuddling with my dachshund and being silly with my 8yo son. I watered some plants while listening to some soothing smooth jazz and prepared lunch while gettin my groove on. Now I am off to shop and purchase some items to take care of our family.
ahhhhh oxytocin rocks!
Now I am ready
